Engines have corrosion protection and are commonly called Zincs. They help reduce corrosion inside the engines cooling system and need regular checking and changing.
Here is a set that was checked on a Cummins 380. These zincs had 30 hours of run time in salt water. They are 1/3 percent wasted.
